Opportunities

I can't believe I've wasted so much time looking for someone to give me an opportunity to become successful. I've learned that life is full of opportunities waiting for us to take advantage of them, and use them to the best of our abilities. Often times we look for opportunities to be presented to us with money attached to it, along with a BIG red bow, but that's not always how it's presented. We have to sometimes be able to take advantage of small situations that could possibly prepare us for the bigger picture.

Today I got a chance to shadow Professor Vickers at WXII News 12, which I was extremely excited about. I kept the attitude that I would walk out of the newsroom with some sort of insight on how the news anchors and reporters go about doing their job. As I was getting ready my nerves weren't as bad as I imagined them to be, but instead I was calm and ready to soak in as much information as possible. Now, I couldn't learn everything in one day, but I could go and get my face out there.

For those of you who plan on entering the entertainment/communications field, keep in mind that it's important for you to make your face known, but it's equally as important for you to have a lot of information about your particular field. The entertainment business is a place for looks, but what's the point of having good looks if you don't have the knowledge........you won't go far and will possibly be taken advantage of.

I got a chance to see how everything is operated on the other side of the television screen. I shook hands with some fairly nice people, and even had small talk with the receptionist. The person who control the teleprompter inside of the control room started up a convo with me, but the fast paced working environment prevented us from holding a long conversation.....bummer.

I was glad I took advantage of this opportunity, because who knows where this could lead me. I'm a firm believer that sometimes that one door that's open for you could lead to many other doors, and sometimes doors that you've never even imagined would be available to you. I think the receptionist gave me a reminder that this could lead to other things, because of the stories she shared with me about other people, who've moved on to do others things. I'm just a believer that anything is possible IF YOU PUT IN THE WORK & FOCUS ON YOUR GOALS!!

So, start taking advantage of small opportunities and finding different ways to reinvent yourself. The world has great things that it wants to offer you, but it can't give it to you if you don't move.
